Cotswold: wildlife murder

On Friday 21st July, a 3 year old female wolf went missing within the Cotswold Wildlife Centre. Ember, a young mother of five cubs had climbed up a fence and managed to get out of the perimeter fence, but because she was deemed threatening to visitors and apparently “too far away” for the security team to tranquilise her with a dart, Ember was cruelly shot dead.

Ember the wolf

Following the incident, the park released a tweet stating the circumstances as well as the grief felt by the whole Cotswold crew.

Statement

The “emergency” of the situation led them to make the extreme decision to kill rather than sedate. Was this really necessary? Were there no other way that they could have saved Ember’s life?

According to Cotswold Wildlife Centre, a poorly charged electric fence was to blame as this made Ember’s escape easier for her. So, was this human error the cause of this unfortunate incident – or worse, murder? The blasé decision from the Cotswold Wildlife Centre to destroy an innocent animal was indeed rushed and made without thinking of the consequences. Since the death of Ember, from reading other social media posts about this incident, it would appear that there are a lot of people concerned about the safety and wellbeing of the other 260 animal species at the centre.

Whether Ember posed as a threat or not, the real issue is, had the employees of the Wildlife Centre done their job correctly, we wouldn’t have had a problem to begin with, and Ember’s 5 cubs would still have a mother with them today.

This tragic death of Ember really is unforgivable.

KFC PR

Spread through videos and pictures on social media, we all have witnessed KFC scandals. Indeed, unexpected fried guests such as maggots and rats were found by customers who jumped onto social media to denounce the mishap.

KFC

Facebook user reporting having been served fried rat

KFC just replied to these controversies by a brand new advert which states: The chicken, the whole chicken and nothing but the chicken.

KFC poster seen in Birmingham

By this quite direct counter strike the company claims one-off events which are not relevant for the whole fast food firm. By using the term “the whole chicken”, KFC wanted to emphasize that the only ingredient used in the meals is chicken. But it could also be understood as if the restaurants used each and every part of the chicken. As undesired parts of chicken were found in buckets (as a chicken head) it could clearly leads the campaign to be trolled by internet users.

Is this farfetched? Is it a good PR? Or Bad? It’s up to you readers!

Students abroad: a Q&A like Bible

Globalisation surely has an impact on studies. Today more than ever students from around the world consider studying or working abroad. However it might be easier said than done… Parents or students : this Q&A is for you! Follow Jade and Dylan, two french students working in Birmingham (U.K).

Dylan Besson (22y.o):

19904619_1949022861980124_861376822_n

How did you feel when you arrived?

Well, I actually felt great. New experience, first time away from home… Euphoria would be the word! But soon came a bunch of bad feelings: homesickness, sadness, and even some kind of fear…

How did you cope with these bad feelings?

The first two days I tried to build myself what we could call a “comfort zone”. I just stood on the sofa and spent hours on Youtube…  I think it is part of our instinct to hide behind something we know when one is somewhere without any landmark. But then I just woke up and decided to live the moment. Going out for instance was a way to feel better. I honestly love being in Birmingham now!

What was the main difficulty you encountered?

Being in a huge city. I am used to living in a small one and felt a bit lost sometimes.

How was it to get in your workplace?

Great. It is a brand new experience which I cherish everyday. My colleagues are just amazing. I really feel like this experience is giving me opportunities I would not have had by staying in France.

What tips would you give to other students who would like to work abroad?

Not to be affraid. You are never alone or left behind if you remain open minded and sociable. Just keep in mind that waaaaaay back in history our ancestors used to travel everyday. Which makes it part of our genes. 😉

Jade Geoffroy Jacob (21 y.o):

19970515_1570254479673789_1552456530_n

What were your expectations before your departure?

I really want to get some real professional experience after college and ready myself for real work.

What is your professional project?

I’ts still a litle bit unclear but I have always been atracted to books and therefore I would love to work with a publishing house and become an editorialist.

Do you think this experience will give you opportunities later?

I think I’m creating a social circle thanks to the company so I believe this will be useful when I’ll be looking for a job later.

According to you, how long one should stay abroad? (minimum)

The perfect duration is between 2-6 months. It depends on your ability to be away from your friends and family.

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Advantages : Meeting new people, learning new skills

Disadvantages : Being in an unknown environment

Amazon Black Friday!

With Christmas just around the corner and only one more pay day to see us through (eek), we are all looking to buy our family and friends the best gifts at the best prices.

Luckily for us, Americas gift of Black Friday made its way across the pond in 2010, and has blessed us ever since. Set to take place on Friday 25th November this year, us Brits have fully embraced the chaos, and we spent $2 billion last year!

black-friday-santa

This year, Amazon is the gift that keeps on giving. They started their Black Friday sale at midnight on Monday 14th November, a full twelve days before Black Friday officially begins, and have just announced that they will be extending the offers until the 22nd December!

A spokesperson claimed that we will be able to ‘find deals as often as every five minutes’, and the company have already slashed the prices of thousands of their products including HD TV’s, Audio products, home accessories and toys.

Black-Friday.jpg

Products will only be on offer for as long as stocks last, with thousands of ‘Lightening Deals’ introduced throughout a short period of time. Having extended their Black Friday offers until the 22nd December, we have just enough time to get the Christmas presents sorted before the Boxing Day sales start!

Of course this promotional tactic is attracting a lot of attention, and there are daily lists being published online that can point you in the right direction to get your hands on the best deals, and keep your eyes on twitter, as many promotions are being announced on social media!

Spielberg in Birmingham?

If you haven’t heard already, the one and only Steven Spielberg has been filming in several areas of Birmingham for the past few weeks, transforming areas of Digbeth and The Jewellery Quarter into a futuristic dystopian scene for his up and coming film ‘Ready Player One’. The film is said to be released in 2018, so still quiet a while before things are in full swing, however, this didn’t stop us here at Get You Seen from getting excited! For those of you who couldn’t quiet manage the journey to Brum town, here are a few sneak peaks just for you (including an extra special glimpse of Spielberg himself).

We’re all familiar with the term ‘you are what you eat’, so why is the same not true for our beauty regime and the skincare products we use? Award winning Australian brand Sasy n Savy are a manufacturer of Natural Native Australian bath, body and well-being products committed to educating consumers on the benefits of using natural products. Vegan and vegetarian friendly, Sasy n Savy products are free from harmful chemicals, colours and synthetic ingredients, and only contain ingredients sourced from Australian plants, herbs and flower extracts.

As summer begins to draw to a close, we can look forward to the return of cosy knits, ankle boots, pumpkin spiced lattes, Halloween and fireworks, but as the leaves shed from the trees, and the weather begins to take a turn for the cold, autumnal vibes are not exactly ideal for our hands! Just as it is said that our eyes are the windows to our soul, our hands are often one of the first body parts to show signs of ageing. While many of us wouldn’t wash our faces without moisturising afterwards, many of us neglect our hands leading inevitably to dry, cracked and ageing skin.

Welcome home Team GB

Team GB has safely returned to home soil and we’re still not over what a successful Olympic games it has been. Team GB managed to secure a total of 67 medals, 27 gold, 23 silver and 17 bronze beating there total in the London 2012 Olympic games. Great Britain won gold medals across 15 different sports which is more than any other nation putting themselves above China for the first time since 1984 and finishing second in the medal tally.

OLYMPICS 2

Team GB travelled in style in the British Airways Boeing 747 which displayed ‘victoRIOus’ on the side. The gold nose plane carried home 320 athletes who indulged in 77 bottles of champagne and a three course meal for their 11 hour journey home. Gold medal holders were treated to first class while bronze and silver received business class. Despite the other athletes settling for economy this didn’t interfere with the beaming smiles across Team GB and the champagne was flowing before takeoff.

Should the real be taken out of reality?

Reality TV greeted our screens back in 2002 with the American reality television programme, The Osbournes. The show ran until March 21, 2005 with the first season being the most-viewed series ever on MTV. The Osbournes features Ozzy Osbourne, his wife and manager Sharon and their children Jack and Kelly. With major events such as Sharon dealing with cancer and the aftermath of an ATV accident that nearly killed Ozzy, there is no argument that the programme was merely produced for our entertainment.The-Osbournes-Wallpaper

While the show was very much focused on the family without the need of glitz and glamour that reality TV enforces nowadays, there were rumours that the programme was in fact staged. This was followed after an interview with Jack and Kelly who stated that some of the antics on the show were arranged by MTV producers. Despite these claims being denied by Ozzy Osbourne’s publicist, it created the now everyday debate of ‘what is actually real in reality TV?’

Just over a year after The Osbournes aired their final episode, a new reality TV show took over on May 31 2006. The Hills followed the lives of everyday people including the narrator, Lauren Conrad, and Kim Kardashian’s half brother, Brody Jenner with Kim Kardashian also making a guest appearance. The programme highlighted the dramas, issues and relationships the young people faced with the involvement of a production team.

tvsinopse011

The final episode on July 13th 2010 received a lot of backlash where in the finale the camera pans out to show the entire production team including cameramen and crewmembers which created a lot of controversy on the falseness of the Hills. The coming back show ‘That was then, this is now’ which aired last Sunday on MTV, featured the narrator and major character of the programme Lauren Conrad, taking us on her journey during The Hills and her life that now follows. The programme also settled the accusations of the programme being fake with Lauren confirming that what we saw was real and genuine with certain scenes creating the entertainment side of reality.

Upon her debut in The Hills, Kim Kardashian is now famous for appearing on the reality hit show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which follows the life of herself and her family. The show which has been running since October 14 2007, features the Kardashians growing up along with the expansion of the family. However with the constant presence of cameras, arguments are going to be exaggerated or it wouldn’t make the most interesting watch. So while we know that everything has never been sweet in the land of Taylor Swift and Kimye, it is questioned whether it was all a bit OTT.kardashians-promo-photo

America set the mark for reality TV until 2010 saw a break through with British reality TV. The Only Way Is Essex famously known as TOWIE, first aired on 10th October 2010, and has grown from strength to strength. The BAFTA award winning show features the dramatic lives of an expanding cast. Megan McKenna- famous for her appearance on Ex on the Beach- recently joined the iconic cast bringing the heat and all explosive drama that TOWIE is renowned for. The show features a lot of reference to characters tweets about one another yet they wait until filming to address their issues making the show entertaining with aspects of reality. 13718616_1176433282398969_7212891807779870019_n

So that’s our views but what’s yours? Is it fake for the cameras or is it in fact real with the involvement of filming?
